CAMDEN, N.C. — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into a social media video that named Camden County High School, the Camden County Sheriff's Office told the Camden Tribune on Wednesday, and no charges have been filed.

Sheriff J. Kevin Jones said earlier Wednesday there is no known or inherent threat to Camden County Schools as a result of the video. In a statement posted to the Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Jones said the video originated on TikTok on July 26 and named Camden County High School along with several other area schools, with statements alleging impending harm when the schools reconvene in the coming weeks.

The person who created the video has been identified and interviewed and is not a resident of Camden County, Jones said. Asked whether that person is a juvenile, the Sheriff's Office said it could not confirm or deny.

Jones' Facebook statement described the SBI as assisting the local law enforcement agency. In response to questions from the Camden Tribune, the Sheriff's Office said the state agency is leading the case.

Jones said he understands information of this nature can cause concern and anxiety, particularly for families preparing for the upcoming school year, and that his office will continue working with law enforcement partners and school officials on student and staff safety.

The Camden Tribune is not linking to or further describing the video, and is not reporting information about the person who made it while their age is unconfirmed and no charges have been filed.

Camden County Schools had not issued a separate statement as of publication. This story will be updated.
